Calligrapher from the instant – latest creation: MuRs (Walls)
Pierre Constantin began his artistic career at the age of 14. He worked with mosaics for many years in Ricardo Licata’s studio at the Beaux Arts in Paris before focusing on drawing live models in motion, particularly dance, with visual artist Michel Costious.
In 2007, he added another string to his bow by creating “graphic representations” of music and words at the invitation of jazz musician Han Sen Limtung.
In this way, he experimented with the graphic abstraction of music.
Today, Pierre Constantin draws exclusively during live performances.
He is an integral part of them. The creation of the drawings is filmed live and projected onto a screen.
He works on paper, using Indian ink and a reed pen, combining traditional techniques with modern ones.
He is an associate artist at the Château de Monthelon (89).
“Pierre Constantin is the photographer of the Middle Ages.” Jacques Fichelle, Director of UTOPIA, Paris
“Pierre Constantin is in a trance, his lines are quick, precise, spontaneous.
He dances the drawing he creates, his work sings, there is no doubt about it!” Sylvie POMARET, Founding President of the EC.ART POMARET Foundation.
His latest creation: MuRs – (Walls) Directed by: Cille LANSADE – Sound is created through drawing.
Pierre paints with a reed pen and rear-projects his drawings.
Each stroke of the pen is accompanied by sound, thanks to a unique system he developed with a sound designer.
It is a show based on the concept of Walls: political Walls, social Walls, psychological Walls, cultural Walls, individual Walls… All these boundaries, these limits that sometimes prevent, compartmentalize, distance, or allow, define, and structure.
Chosen walls, sudden walls.
